When to Schedule Gas Leak Detection

Keeping in mind the potential dangers of gas leaks, it is important to know when to reach out for gas leak detection. There are many signs that may indicate you are experiencing a natural gas leak. This includes the physical symptoms that may arise due to a gas leak in addition to numerous other signs that may occur in and around your home or building.

Perhaps the most notable sign of a possible gas leak is the unexplained occurrence of an odor similar to rotten eggs. This is due to a substance called mercaptan. Natural gas does not have a scent itself, but the addition of mercaptan provides a distinctive odor similar to rotten eggs that indicates a possible gas leak.

You may also notice that the plants or shrubbery around your home are dead or dying if they have been exposed to natural gas. If the gas leak is outdoors, you may notice that your grass and other plant life such as shrubbery surrounding the gas pipes have begun to turn brown. Houseplants inside your home may also begin to show signs of decay. Some other signs of gas leaks include hissing sounds emanating from your gas-using equipment and appliances.

Thorough Plumbing recently completed a gas inspection in Plano, Texas. They replaced faulty black iron fittings near a home. A leak was found on the fittings before the riser went into the ground by the side of the house. The faulty section was cut out and repaired. The house side was pressure tested perfectly, with the fittings replaced and another test conducted at the meter. The pressure held steady for 30 minutes, ensuring safety and reliability. This service ensures that gas systems function properly, helping keep homes safe and efficient.
